Enjoy your success on how much you have accomplished. Make the connection between the MSN Program Outcomes, AACN Graduate Essentials, and the NLN Nurse Educator Competencies. You can do this as an introduction and add information in your summary. Start early.

  • Introduction to the Nurse Educator Portfolio

    Welcome to the first module in your portfolio completion! In this first module, focus on the documentation of the completion of goals and objectives.

      Dear Nurse Educator Student,
      Welcome to the final chapter of your program!  You have come a long way, and we are so proud of you!  Besides successfully passing your last class or classes, you will also need to complete a portfolio as a requirement.

      We have created this online resource course to assist you with building your portfolio.  You should all be familiar with using Marian Online 2, as this has been the online system throughout the program.

      The portfolio will be due the April 1st for May graduates, and November 1st for December graduates.  Portfolios should be organized by Marian University program outcomes, MSN Essentials, and the NLN Nurse Educator Competencies and submitted in TYPHON under External Links.  Remember, that the evidence of your learning experiences in each competency may be a reflective narrative and does not have to be a completed assignment from your courses.  Evidence of achievement of the program outcomes will be incorporated with evidence of learning experiences related to each essential, because competency in each of the essentials ensures achievement of the program objectives.  Additionally, be sure to include both a personal statement of philosophy regarding your nursing education and a summary of statement of professional goals or plans.

    • Goals and Objectives of the Portfolio Page

      Students will complete a complete a competency-based portfolio.  The portfolio will allow students to reflect on their professional and personal growth throughout the program, and their learning experiences. 

      Goals:

      1. Students will show evidence of achievement in being able to practice within complex healthcare systems and assume the nurse educator roles.
      • Students will justify documents selected as indicative of the AACN essentials and NLN Core Competencies. The document should have no grammatical or spelling errors.   

      2. Students will show evidence of achievement that they have transformed through a nurse educator focus.   

      • Students will write a statement of philosophy and beliefs regarding nursing education.
      • Students will write a statement that includes goals or plans for the their career, professional development, or higher education.  

      3. Students will communicate their knowledge of the essentials and core competencies using a portfolio.

      • Students will successfully submit the completed portfolio in TYPHON 



  • AACN Essentials Review and NLN Nurse Educator Competencies


    In this module, you will review the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's Essentials of Master's Education in Nursing (March 21. 2011). The essentials have been highlighted in your graduate course work. The NLN Nurse Educator Competencies (2012) have guided your coursework throughout. Include these in your portfolio.

      MSN Program Goals

      Upon completion of the Marian University Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program, graduates will demonstrate the processes of acquiring/generating knowledge, critical thinking, valuing, decision making, and communicating to:

       

      1.      Integrate advanced theoretical and scientific knowledge to guide advanced nursing leadership in diverse practice settings.

       

      2.      Integrate outcome data, evidence-based practice recommendations and professional standards of care to improve population health outcomes.

       

      3.      Apply leadership and inter-professional skills in healthcare delivery systems to ensure safe and quality care.

       

      4.      Apply principles of information systems and population health to deliver evidence-based, culturally relevant strategies for individuals, families and aggregate populations.

  • Portfolio Work Time

    Now is the time to begin to construct your Portfolio. The time consuming part is pulling your materials together. Start early and do not wait to the last minute. That will be very stressful. 

     

  • Submission of your Portfolio

    In this module, you will submit your Nurse Educator portfolio in the external Link area of TYPHON. This is the official record of your achievement. 
    Due Dates:
    May Graduates- April 1st
    August Graduates- July 1st
    December Graduates- November 1st

  • Submission of Any Changes to the Portfolio


    In this module, students will be allowed to resubmit their portfolio if they are missing content.  The instructor reviewing the portfolio will notify the student if they need to resubmit.
