A study of the history of contemporary art since World War II. The course begins with an overview of modern art and considers the definitions of art, modernity and self-expression. Students will learn about the earliest contemporary art, such as Abstract Expressionism and Pop, and then rapidly move through the wide variety of movements and theories that replaced them. The course will question the theoretical basis of contemporary art and examine current issues of our post-modern artistic period, finally considering art and the rise of social media
