Survey course of psychedelic science and relevance to the field of Thanatology. In exploring the historical highlights and origins of various plant-based and synthetic medicines, current evidence-based research and evolving best practices, students are invited to contemplate the sociological, cross-cultural and legal/ethical issues implications on grief counseling, death education, and EOL (End-of-Life) support. Topics include “war on drugs,” decriminalization initiatives, allopathic medicalization, Indigenous reciprocity, end-of-life anxiety/thanatophobia, NDE (near-death experience) phenomena, and psychedelic-assisted grief therapy.
