Practica experiences are an integral component of FNP education. It is within the practice setting that students transfer their didactic knowledge into practice, and, supplement their didactic knowledge with new learning experiences. Students should progress through each practicum course, building competencies and gaining new competencies in preparation for functioning as a novice, but competent primary care FNP upon graduation.

Students must wear a lab coat in the clinical setting.

Students are responsible for ordering a white "mid-length" lab coat of their preferred style from the website Scrubs and Beyond

• Open the file
• Right click on the image, click "Save Image As" from the drop down
• Find the place you want to save the image on your computer, create a file name and make sure the "Save as type" is JPEG Image

When you have found the coat that you want, before putting it in your cart, click the "+Add Embroidery" link next to the price.

Select the following embroidery details

• Alignment: Left Side
• Thread Color: Royal Blue
• Click the "Upload Logo" button to upload the image you downloaded to your computer
• Click "Next - Accept Terms"
• Click "Accept & Add Design"

Not all agencies allow direct contact (cold-calling) to their preceptors. Review agency specific information under the "Clinical Information" section for guidelines.

Please utilize your resources by networking with associates on your clinical rotations, ask your classmates and/or your current preceptor if applicable, and reach out to your clinical instructors before trying to contact individual preceptors using these scripts. 

Attached is a list of active contracts that Marian holds with various agencies, which may be appropriate for an FNP practicum experience.  Just because an agency is listed on the document, does not mean they will have a provider or specialty that will appropriately meet the practicum guidelines/requirements.  You will need to research the agency/preceptor to determine appropriateness based on the guidelines presented on the Resources for Students - MSN page here in MO2.  You may use this list to get ideas of places to look for a potential preceptor.  This list is intended to be a tool to help with networking and research to locate a preceptor and does not guarantee a placement.  The list is subject to change and is only guaranteed accurate at the time it was created.  Efforts will be made to update the document as changes occur.  If you have interest in a placement with an agency not on the list, please contact the Clinical Placement Coordinator at clinicalpaperwork@marianuniversity.edu to discuss your ideas.

This form will be completed as part of your NUR 600 course.   Please be sure to email a copy to your Chairperson, the NUR 600 course dropbox and to nursing@marianuniversity.edu 

Go paperless and save time!  If you prefer use the Adobe version of the form - you can complete and sign the form electronically and then send the form to your Chairperson for signature.  You will receive a signed version via email once your Chairperson has signed the document which you may then upload that to the course dropbox.  The nursing department will automatically receive a version as well.
